Montgomery

Montgomery was known for generations as a stopping point along the old "3-C" Highway (Cincinnati-Columbus-Cleveland). It is home to wonderfully quaint old buildings that are a reminder of a time that was slower and quieter.

The year was 1795 when Cornelius Snider, a veteran of the Revolutionary War, left his comfortable home in Montgomery, New York to make his way west through the Northwest Territory. With Snider were 12 members of his family who traveled with him through Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh) to the Ohio River, down the Little Miami River, and finally to what is now downtown Montgomery.

Cornelius Snider and his brother-in-law; Nathaniel Terwilliger, bought two large pieces of land in Montgomery. By 1801, Terwilliger became Montgomery's first developer when he laid out plans for the new community in 1802 and had them recorded - a full month before the fledgling community to the south, Cincinnati, was recorded.

Today's Montgomery, an integral part of the Cincinnati Metropolitan area, has beautiful neighborhoods, parks, and a state-of-the-art medical complex. The City of Montgomery strives to provide its residents and businesses with excellent quality services.
